Overview

Visit some of the less-explored areas of Australia on this fascinating 16 day tour taking in the beautiful Top End region as well as Western Australia. Explore the wetlands of Kakadu National Park, cruise through the scenic Katherine Gorge and marvel at the Bungle Bungles – this is a tour full of impressive natural beauty. You’ll also get the chance to see some ancient aboriginal rock art and learn about the traditions and customs of local people in the area. (AP)

Day 1

Darwin

Today you’ll arrive in Darwin where you’ll have the even at leisure.

Overnight: Darwin, Mantra on the Esplanade

Day 2

Guluyambi Cruise/Ubirr Rock Art

Today you’ll leave Darwin and head across the wetland landscape of the Marrakai Plains where you’ll reach Kakadu National Park. You’ll then visit Ubirr where you’ll get to see some interesting ancient Aboriginal art and then take a Guluyambi cruise on the East Alligator River. As the evocative landscapes glide by, an indigenous guide will explain the colourful culture, intriguing history and fascinating wildlife of this stunning region.

Day 3

Arnhem Land

Head across the East Alligator River with your guide today over to the Arnhem Land. Here you’ll learn about the art and history of the region, which many travellers often miss. You’ll then return to the scenic Hawk Dreaming where you’ll watch the sunset and spend the night.

Day 4

Katherine

Today you’ll travel to Kakadu in the Northern Territory – one of Australia’s finest national parks. You’ll visit Nourlangie Rock to see some aboriginal rock art and cruise the famous Yellow Water Billabong. Here, wildlife abounds and the local guide will give you great insights into how the Bininj people use the flora and fauna to support their way of life. Later travel onwards to Katherine and enjoy canapes and drinks at the beautiful Cicada Lodge where you’ll enjoy a fantastic three-course meal.

Day 5

Kununurra

Today you’ll head onwards to Nitmiluk National Park where you’ll take a spectacular cruise through Katherine Gorge. Learn about the customs and traditions of the local Jawoyn people and their spiritual culture. You’ll travel onwards into Western Australia.

Day 6

Purnululu National Park/Echidna Chasm

On day six you’ll travel onwards to Purnululu National Park which features the Bungle Bungle Range. You’ll then spend the afternoon hiking to Echidna Chasm, a very thin gorge that you can walk through.

Day 7

Cathedral Gorge/Piccaninny Creek

Today you’ll enjoy a scenic hike to Piccaninny Creek and down through the beautiful Cathedral Gorge. From here you can choose to take an optional helicopter flight for some truly unparalleled views. Later, enjoy a remarkable sunset over the Bungle Bungle Range.

Day 8-9

El Questro

On day eight you’ll visit the El Questro Wilderness Park, which is a million acre cattle station in Kimberley where you will stay enjoying the wildlife for the next couple of nights. Day 9 you will embark on a cruise along the stunning Chamberlain Gorge - a fresh waterway fringed by tropical vegetation and rugged escarpments. After lunch, head to the beautiful Zebedee Springs, a permanent natural thermal spring tucked away in a secluded pocket of rainforest. Return to Emma Gorge and enjoy dinner later this evening.

Day 10-11

Mitchell Plateau

On day 10 you’ll leave El Questro behind and travel along the Gibb River Road where you’ll arrive at your accommodation, the Mitchell Falls Wilderness Lodge. The rest of the day you can spend relaxing in the lounge or treating yourself to a drink or read up on the local culture. On day 11, you’ll hike around the area of the Little Mitchell Falls where you'll have time to take a dip in the river before either hiking back with your guise or taking a spectacular helicopter flight over the falls themselves (extra cost).

Day 12

King Edward River

Today you’ll visit the King Edward River to view the unusual Wandjina and Bradshaw Art Gwion Gwion on the banks of the King Edward River.

Overnight: Drysdale River Station (breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 13-14

Barnett River Gorge/Bell Gorge

Start day 13 with a trip to the pretty Barnett River Gorge where you can spot the local birdlife as you enjoy lunch in the shade of a gum tree. Continue on after lunch travelling to Galvans Gorge where a short walk will lead you to the picturesque waterhole. Admire the rock art adorning the gorge walls or indulge in a leisurely swim.

The following day you’ll visit Bell Gorge to enjoy a tasty lunch. You’ll then have a range of activities to choose from including hiking or birdwatching or taking a dip in the waters.

Day 15

Tunnel Creek/Broome

Today you’ll visit the picturesque Windjana Gorge where cliffs tower above white sands. You’ll then pass through Tunnel Creek to see a beautiful oasis beyond. Afterwards head to Broome where you’ll stay at the Cable Beach Club Resort and Spa. Here you can enjoy a relaxed evening with a drink, farewell dinner and a beautiful sunset, sharing your adventure story's with the group at the resort’s restaurant.

Overnight: Cable Beach Club Resort & Spa, Broome (breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 16

Broome

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your onward flight.
