Australia’s east coast is home to some of its most famous names and a wealth of awe-inspiring attractions. This 12-night guided tour takes you on an unforgettable journey to some of these inspiring locations, beginning in Sydney and ending in Cairns. Along the way you will be treated to visits to such destinations as the Gold Coast, Noosa, Fraser Island, Hamilton Island and the world-famous Great Barrier Reef. (AA)

Day 1

Sydney - Port Macquire

Welcome to Sydney! Travel today to Hunter Valley for an exclusive wine tasting and get to know you fellow travellers over a delicious lunch at a local winery.

Continue North to Port Macquarie. In the evening, enjoy a welcome reception and dinner with your tour guide and fellow travellers.

Overnight: Waters Edge, Port Macquarie (Lunch included)

Day 2-3

Gold Coast

Journey to Cape Byron Lighthouse to admire the phenomenal views from Australia’s most eastern point then visit Byron Bay for lunch and some free time. Afterwards, follow the Tweed River Valley to the famous Gold Coast where you’ll have the evening free to dine at one of the restaurants or cafés this area has to offer. Here is where you'll spend the next 2 nights.

Have free time to explore the stunning Gold Coast Hinterland to discover the rainforest and village of Mt. Tamborine, or simply relax and take a stroll on the Surfers Paradise Beach.

Day 4-5

Noosa

Make your way to Brisbane for a city tour and some free time before a visit to Australia Zoo, made by the famous crocodile hunter - Steve Irwin and his family. There will be time for a sneak peek of the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital, as well as chance to see a vast array of animals. This is a must for wildlife lovers, with really amazing experiences and exciting education opportunities. Later travel to the town of Noosa to enjoy a dinner with a beach view.

Spend the day enjoying Noosa – go swimming at Noosa Main Beach, take a scenic walk along the headland through Noosa National Park or take a boat ride through the everglades. This area has it all – beautiful beaches, wetlands, mangroves, and stunning flora and fauna.

Day 6

Hervey Bay

Take a 4WD tour of Rainbow Beach before heading by ferry or barge to Fraser Island. There will be the opportunity to walk through the ancient rainforest at Central Station which is filled with gum and kauri trees, before visiting Lake McKenzie – a stunning area edged by white sand beaches. There will be a BBQ lunch before you make your way back to the mainland for your overnight stay in Hervey Bay.

Day 7

Rockhampton

Today sees you journey to historic Rockhampton, stopping along the way at Langmorn Station which is a fully operational cattle station. Afternoon tea will be served (in the company of the pet kangaroo!) at the homestead, a restored ‘Queenslander’ built in 1873. Cross the Tropic of Capricorn and continue on to Rockhampton on the Fitzroy River.

Day 8-9

Hamilton Island

Make your way through Mackay and on to Airlie Beach which is the gateway to the Whitsunday Islands. Take a guided tour through a miniature sugar mill along the way to discover the processes of the sugar cane, you'll have the chance to taste some of the products before sitting down to a light lunch here. Once you’ve arrived at Airlie Beach you’ll take a ferry across Hamilton Island – situated in the heart of the stunning Great Barrier Reef.

Take a cruise to famous Whitehaven Beach and take a walk to lookout for the views over the waters and islands of the Coral Sea. Spend the afternoon at leisure on Hamilton Island where you can explore the bays, beaches and islands. If you’re feeling active, there are some more energetic activities available including a rainforest walk, tennis and volleyball, or snorkelling and kayaking. But this is the perfect place to unwind if you just want to relax by the pool and make the most of the spa.

Day 10

Mission Beach

Return to the mainland in the morning as you make your way further along your journey, stopping along the way for lunch in Townsville which overlooks Magnetic Island for a relaxed stroll along the Strand. You'll end in Mission Beach where you'll be staying the night with views of the Ocean.

Day 11

Cairns

Enjoy a gentle stroll on the beach in the morning before leaving to discover the tropical mountain retreat of Kuranda. Visit the Millaa Millaa Falls and the famous Curtain Fig Tree along the way and once in Kuranda wander the heritage markets and art galleries of the village in the 'rainforest'. Next choose either a coach to the next destination or a journey on the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway which takes you above the rainforest over Barron Gorge National Park.

Day 12

Great Barrier Reef

Board a high-speed catamaran in the morning to cruise out to the Great Barrier Reef where you’ll be enjoy a reef education presentation and the opportunity to view the coral and tropical fish from the underwater observatory. Go snorkelling afterwards to view this underwater landscape up close before being treated to a tropical buffet lunch. After lunch, make your return journey to Cairns and celebrate your trip in the evening with a farewell dinner with your group.

Day 13

Cairns

This is the final day of the trip – make your way to Cairns Airport for your departing flight.
