Discover some of Queensland’s most beautiful landscapes on this fantastic 16 day self-drive tour through the state. Over the 16 days, you’ll be exploring stunning national parks including Eurimbula and Undara, wandering through Daintree Rainforest, discovering life underwater in the Great Barrier Reef, marvelling at the Whitsundays, and even taking part in volcano and wildlife tours.

Brisbane to Hervey Bay (312km)
After you’ve collected your car you’ll drive to the small seaside town of Hervey Bay, well known for its white sand beaches and humpback whales. The rest of the day will be free to swim, fish, dive or simply sunbathe on the beach, or you could wander through the art galleries, marvel at the botanical gardens, and tuck into delightful cuisine.
Spend the day at leisure. Venture to Fraser Island, the world’s largest sand island full of beautiful lookouts, including Indian Head, and the colourful sands of the Cathedrals.
Agnes Water (234km)
Today you’ll travel to Agnes Water, driving past sweeping cane fields that line the roads. This quaint town is lined with wonderful golden sand beaches, offering great waves for surfers, and brilliant spots for soaking up the sun
Agnes Water and Rockhampton (255km)
In the morning you’ll have time to explore the Eurimbula National Park – a beautiful area full of tropical rainforest and lush coastal mangroves. You’ll then continue north to Rockhampton, a charming town full of history and home to historic cathedrals and characterful homes.
Rockhampton and Airlie Beach (481km)
In the morning you will depart Rockhampton and drive north to the Cape Hillsborough National Park, a fascinating area with a volcanic origin, and home to kangaroos, turtles and whales. You’ll then continue on to Airlie Beach – the gateway to the Whitsundays.
The whole day is at your leisure. Use this time to explore the beautiful Whitsundays, venturing through bright, luscious rainforest and sunbathing on the pristine white sands in secluded bays. Most of the Whitsundays’ activities are based on Airlie Beach, as well as a picturesque swimming lagoon, and lots of restaurant options.
Today you will journey north to Townsville, taking a detour to the quaint country town of Bowen to explore its eight beaches and wander along gorgeous walking trails. Once in Townsville, you can enjoy a leisurely stroll along the waterfront esplanade, The Strand.
The day is free for you to explore Townsville, a wonderful city bordered by the Great Barrier Reef and full of museums, lively nightlife, and world-class diving. Discover the natural beauty of Magnetic Island, or visit the Reef HQ Aquarium, which holds the world’s largest living coral reef aquarium inside.
Drive inland to Charters Towers, a fascinating town embodying Australia’s old time history and heritage. Afterwards, you’ll continue driving to Undara National Park, where you can walk to the One Hundred Mile Wetland and take part in a fun evening campfire activity.
Today you’ll join a Savannah guide on a Volcano Valley tour to discover the largest lava tube system on earth, before enjoying a brilliant Wildlife at Sunset tour in the evening.
Mission Beach (276km)
Your day will begin with a visit to Innot Hot Springs, before travelling through dense rainforest to find the cascading Millaa Millaa Falls, and ending at Mission Beach.
The day is free for you to explore Mission Beach, a gorgeous beachside village where activities are endless. Snorkel in the reef, wander through Dunk Island, sea kayak in the ocean, or even test your nerves with a parachute excursion.
Port Douglas (204km)
After departing Mission Beach you’ll come across Paronella Park, a beautiful and cultural park housing Jose Paronella’s castle, picnic area and tropical rainforest, which opened to the public back in 1935. You’ll then drive to Innisfall before travelling to Babinda to discover the natural splendour of Wooroonooran National Park, a lovely place for walking, canoeing and mountain biking. Afterwards you’ll take the scenic route through Cairns and arrive in Port Douglas.
Days 14 & 15
Over the next two days you’ll have lots of time to enjoy everything Port Douglas has to offer. Marvel at stunning foliage and elusive animals in Daintree Rainforest, or discover the idyllic world underwater with a snorkelling or diving excursion in the Great Barrier Reef.
Today you’ll be graced with one of Australia’s most scenic drives as you travel south to Cairns. Don’t forget to stop at Rex Lookout for remarkable views.
Your car is booked until the following day. You must return the car at the city or airport by the same time it was picked up on day 1, or you’ll be given an additional charge.
