Instead of self driving a normal car along the Stuart Highway, this self drive tour of the Red Centre takes you along the Mereenie Loop, in to Aboriginal owned territory (you will require a permit), and throough the MacDonnell Ranges and West MacDonnell National Park with all its peaks, gorges and chasms. Then you arrive at Kings Canyon from the North. The journey to KIngs Canyon is exceptional, with 300 miles of rugged, unsurfaced road. This is the proper outback and a true authentic experience of this vast, empty red wilderness. Joining the surfaced tarmac again at KIngs Canyon you still have Uluru and Kata Tjuta to look forward to. On your way back, if you fancy it take the Ernest Giles 4WD track om the way back to Alice. Wow, what a trip!
